Teaching Statement
Dance is a language I understand more than any other. I allow my movement to tell me where I need to be. I gravitate toward teaching artists with the dedication in learning their artistic language.
My understanding of others creates a judgment-free space, which caters to the growth of my dancers both physically and emotionally. My teaching style is intense but nurturing, allowing room for mistakes but effort is always required. I understand that each dancer comes with different backgrounds, baggage, and points of view, so I strive to meet each individual on their level, both in their movement, and personal awareness. I want my dancers to feel comfortable using life’s realities as a driving inspiration while they're in the space with me. Understanding why you are moving the way you are is a philosophy I encourage deeply in my teaching. I use this philosophy as I teach by explaining the thought process of my movement as it’s being taught.
My idea of dance education is shaped around both empathy and inspiration. I continually find myself finding ways to challenge my dancers to create a stronger mindset. I strive to create an environment where my dancers will feel physically pushed, comfortable with failing, and eager to see things from new perspectives. Within movement and teaching movement, there is more than one way to get the information across, so I believe it is important to understand this idea starting at a younger age. My goal is to consistently find ways to push their cognitive and physical abilities in and outside of the dance studio, shaping them to keep reaching for stronger versions of themselves as artists and people.
